I have been making and donating glass beads to Beads of Courage UK since it came to the UK in 2013. It makes me happy to be able to lend a hand in this way just by doing something that I already love to do - making glass beads.
Children and teens participating in Beads of Courage program receive a specific coloured bead for each treatment or medical intervention during their treatment journey through serious illness. These beads build up to create a colourful record that help young people own and tell their own story.
Here is a snap of the some of the most recent act of courage beads that I have just posted off. There are robots, monsters, mini monsters, bees, a couple of snails and pet pebble or two in the mix.
Act of courage beads is the name given to the one of a kind beads that lampworkers like myself donate to the program. These special beads are sent out to hospitals by Beads of Courage UK and are given to children on the program to acknowledge the courage displayed by them during treatment defining milestones.
I hope these beads bring some smiles and encouragement to the children who receive them.
